3-, 4- or 5-Piece Duvet Cover Set: What Is Actually Included?

Gray and white floral duvet cover set styled on a bed; inserts and room accessories are not included

A bigger piece count does not necessarily mean a more complete bed. A four-piece duvet cover set may include a fitted sheet, while a five-piece set may add decorative cushion covers instead. Start with the pieces you need, not the number on the label.

This guide compares three specific Reylox sets so you can see what those counts mean in practice. Their contents are examples, not a universal rule for every three-, four- or five-piece set.

First, a duvet cover is not a filled comforter

A duvet cover is the removable outer cover for a separate duvet insert. The cover itself does not supply the filling. If you are starting from an empty bed, buying a cover set alone will not give you a filled duvet or pillows.

The Reylox sets below are unfilled cover sets. Check the included-pieces list and your existing bedding before ordering; a styled bed can show inserts and accessories that are not supplied.

Three pieces: a cover and two pillowcases

The Blue & White Botanical 3-Piece Duvet Cover Set contains:

  • One duvet cover
  • Two matching pillowcases

This combination makes sense if you already have a suitable fitted sheet and want to change the duvet cover and pillowcases. It does not add a fitted sheet, decorative cushion covers or a duvet insert to your bedding.

Four pieces: check what the extra piece actually is

The Gray & White Floral 4-Piece Duvet Cover Set with Fitted Sheet contains:

  • One duvet cover
  • One fitted sheet
  • Two matching pillowcases

Here, the fourth piece is a fitted sheet for the mattress, not a filled comforter or an extra pillow. This is the option to compare if replacing your fitted sheet is part of the room refresh. Duvet and pillow inserts are not included.

The fitted sheet requires its own fit check. For this gray floral set, the listed mattress dimensions are Queen 60 × 80 inches, King 76 × 80 inches and California King 72 × 84 inches, each with an 18-inch pocket. Measure your mattress, including any topper that the sheet must cover, rather than choosing by the duvet size alone.

Five pieces: decorative covers, not an extra sheet

The Red & White Botanical 5-Piece Duvet Cover Set contains:

  • One duvet cover
  • Two pillowcases
  • Two 18 × 18-inch throw pillow covers

Those two decorative covers bring the total to five. A fitted sheet is not on this set’s included-pieces list, and the throw pillow covers need separate inserts. Choose this arrangement if you want the coordinated decorative cushions and already have, or plan to obtain, the other bedding you need.

Buying five pieces instead of four would not solve a missing fitted-sheet problem in this comparison. The more useful question is: which set supplies the particular pieces I am replacing?

Match the insert, mattress and pillows separately

Do not use one size label as a substitute for three measurements. For these three sets, the listed duvet cover dimensions are:

  • Queen: 90 × 90 inches
  • King: 90 × 95 inches
  • California King: 90 × 104 inches

Compare those measurements with the insert you intend to use. An insert with the same size name can still have different finished dimensions, so read its label too. These are the dimensions of the covers, not the mattresses.

The included pillowcases in all three examples measure 20 × 30 inches, including in the King and California King sets. Do not assume that selecting a larger duvet cover also changes the pillowcase dimensions. Check the pillows you already own, and check the separate 18 × 18-inch covers if choosing the red botanical five-piece set.

A short shopping checklist

  1. List what is missing. Do you need a fitted sheet, decorative covers, or just a new duvet cover and pillowcases?
  2. Count each supplied item. Read the selected product’s contents; do not count furniture, filled pillows or other styling props in a room image.
  3. Measure before matching size names. Compare the duvet insert, mattress and pillows with their corresponding cover dimensions.
  4. Plan for inserts separately. A duvet cover, pillowcase or cushion cover is not the filled item that goes inside it.
  5. Read the current variant and care details. Available sizes can change. Follow the product care label rather than assuming one wash or drying setting fits every textile.

For this comparison, choose the blue botanical three-piece set for a cover-and-pillowcase refresh, the gray floral four-piece set when you also need its fitted sheet, or the red botanical five-piece set when you want matching decorative covers. None is automatically better because of its piece count—the right choice is the one that matches your existing bedding and the pieces you actually need.
